Safety is a common denominator across all aspects of life... It is not a matter only for industry it is a matter for all humanity.

Suicide Prevention Month & Help Resources

Some 1,400 Arizonans die by suicide annually; it is the eighth leading cause of death in the state. And yet, we can all play a role in helping to decrease this number in our communities. Remember to W.A.I.T.:

W: Watch for signs of distress and uncharacteristic behavior, including an increase in substance use, sleep pattern changes, discussing death or suicide.

A: Ask, “Are you thinking of dying by suicide?”

I: It will pass. Reassure the person you’re speaking with that suicidal thoughts are treatable and you will walk alongside them to get care.

T: Talk to others. Call the crisis line for immediate guidance on next steps.

Older Drivers

In 2020, there were almost 48 million licensed drivers ages 65 and older in the United States. This is a 68% increase since 2000.

Drivers aged 70+ have higher crash death rates per 1,000 crashes than middle-aged drivers (aged 35-54).3 Higher crash death rates among this age group are primarily due to increased vulnerability to injury in a crash.

  • Across all age groups, males have substantially higher crash death rates than females.
  • Age-related changes in vision, physical functioning, and the ability to reason and remember, as well as some diseases and medications, might affect some older adults’ driving abilities.
